Edinburgh
Von April bis Ende Juli befinde ich mich im Rahmen eines Forschungsaufenthaltes in Schottland, genauer gesagt an der University of Edinburgh. Die School of Informatics ist das größte Informatikinstitut Europas (ca. 500 Forscher) und die Uni wird unter Europas Top 10 gelistet. Neben vielen interessanten Projekten (z.B. Spracherkennung in Meetings per Mikrofonarray) wird hier auch die Sprachsynthesesoftware Festival entwickelt. Darüber hinaus gibt es viele Vorträge und Veranstaltungen wo immer wieder zu erkennen ist, wie wichtig Korpora und statistische Verarbeitung sind. Das spiegelt auch meine Erfahrungen bei aktuellen Paperreviews wider. Ohne Datengrundlage ist es schlichtweg nicht möglich, Modelle zu entwickeln bzw. diese anschließend zu evaluieren.
